03/31/2020The U.K. Prudential Regulation Authority has published a statement supporting the decisions of the U.K.'s largest banks to suspend dividends and buybacks on ordinary shares until the end of 2020 and to cancel outstanding 2019 dividends. The PRA also makes it clear that it expects banks to refrain from paying cash bonuses to senior staff, including material risk takers. In parallel, the PRA has written to the CEOs of the largest U.K. banks (HSBC, Nationwide, Santander, Standard Chartered, Barclays, RBS and Lloyds Banking Group), notifying them of the PRA's expectation that they should not pay cash bonuses to senior staff.
